I like the idea but everyone knows that pony synthesis was conducted in a lab by a mad chemical/ biological engineer.

Holy Crap! That's brilliant! I love it! :D

I might have expected the earlier stages to have more toes though. Still, this is superb.

Of course they're not gonna have toes! They're ponies, not prehistoric primitive horse!

The display specifically says the "Evolution" of Earth pony kind. I don't think it would be unreasonable to get into the equine transition from multiple toes to just one.

Because, they were still normal ponies, and like I said, not primitive horses.

With the amount of magic in Equestria's environment? In those circumstances, you have practically no chance of finding a non-ID origin for anything.

So Equus H. Primus's descendants that were not Equus H. Secundus or its descendants mingled with the immediate evolutionary ancestors of Equus Humus Caballus... At least, that's what I gather. It only makes sense that Equus H. Horrendus Maximus's kind would be an evolutionary dead end among ponydom...

I like how the skeletons become increasingly less yellow as the fossil record becomes more recent.

G3 and G3.5 could be due to an introduction of inbreeding, possibly due to the herds thinning.

G1 >> G3.5 = de-evolution
G3.5 >> G4 = quantum evolution
(divine intervention, some say)

When you get right down to it, the G1 ponies really do look like pony neanderthals, don't they? Great picture!
